Reading for Aug 28: John 7:33-36

33 Then Jesus said to them, "I shall be with you a little while longer, and then I go to Him who sent Me. 34 You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come."
35 Then the Jews said among themselves, "Where does He intend to go that we shall not find Him? Does He intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks? 36 What is this thing that He said, 'You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come'?"

My Comments:

For my comments today I'm going to ask a question or actually two questions. Jesus told the Jewish leaders that they could not go where He was going, even though they would "seek" Him. First question is why could they not go? Second question is how do you know that you can go where He is?

Tough, but here it goes.....1.The jews did not believe Jesus was the true Christ. You must believe that to go where he was going...2.the Gospel(Jesus) says "I am the way......he that believes in me shall not perish but have everlasting life" in heaven. I hope this is close!

Thanks Jamie, I agree with everything you said. The Jews were indeed clueless, but that begs another question: why were they clueless? They heard the same teachings as everyone else, the same teachings we have heard, so what is the difference? My response for #2 is sort of the same; yea absolutely Jesus is the only way and one must believe that, but there has got to be more. Right? If you ask Satan how does a human get to heaven, he will say the only way is through the sacrifice of the Son of God and Jesus performed that sacrifice; but we will certainly not be hanging with Satan for eternity even though he believes that. So my follow up question #2 is why is our belief and our eternal destination different than Satan's?

(And for the record, I am not doubting anyone, including Jamie's, salvation, just trying to do some clarifying.)

1.The Jews were expecting a king; some royalty on a white horse coming to rule here on earth. 2.Satan will not accept Jesus has HIS Lord and Savior. Hmmmmmm....Can Satan ever be saved? Could Satan ever be allowed to return to heaven?oops.. prophecy says he will be cast into the lake of fire. CAN ANYONE ELSE COMMENT ON THIS!

Ok. I'm a bit confussed as to where the discussion has headed but as to the original question of why the leaders could not go where Jesus is going.... Was Jesus not refering to his physical presence leaving to be with God the father and would no longer be here on earth? As for knowing that I am going where he is.... I am told so by Jesus himself that all who calls on the lord and believes in him shall be saved. We are saved by grace through faith. This gives us, as christians, reassurance of our eternal destination with him in heaven.
